Commissioners passed a no-new-revenue tax rate of $0.044 per $100 valuation to fund the fire department budget, which is set to be finalized in October along with the commissioner's budget. Commissioner Kevin Stertzel was the lone opposition to the passed tax rate, recommending a $0.039 tax rate. With eyes set on a new budget, the fire department recently hired California-based Citygate Associates consulting firm to create a strategic plan for the department. The plan showed that Cy-Fair Fire Department was in need of an expansion and additional resources to accommodate Cypress' massive growth.
